Mapping the World’s Forests in Three Dimensions

Seeing Forests for the Trees and the Carbon:Mapping the World’s Forests in Three Dimensions is a resource from NASA's Earth Observatory that addresses the role of trees/forests in Earth's Carbon Budget and describes how scientists are using remote sensing to visualize the World's forests. Here you can find a map of the World's Forest Cover, World's Tree Canopy Height (providing a three dimensional view of global forests), and for the US, an map showing  Aboveground Woody Biomass (left).   A combination of text, images and maps, this student friendly resource would be an excellent item for students to explore via a WebQuest activity.
